Galilee Rail Line

Australians must own Australian assets.

The Galilee Basin is a huge geological basin in rural Queensland.

There are plans for a rail line to be built to the Galilee, so that future mine operators can freight minerals out of the Galilee to the coast for processing or export.

It is critical that Australians own and control this asset.

The federal government is irresponsibly proposing to provide a subsidised loan to a private foreign company – Adani – to fund constructing the rail line. This would mean Adani would own the rail line.

If the government funds the line without ownership or control, it can kiss goodbye to further mining development opportunities in the Galilee.

Australia should own the rail line, and charge Adani to use it. This way other miners can potentially develop projects in the Galilee, rather than Adani having control of it.
