Sham Supermarket Inquiry Snubbed – Greedy supermarkets show distain for Miles’ stunt

May 13, 2024

Katter’s Australian Party Leader and Member for Traeger, Robbie Katter has said he’s unsurprised that the country’s largest supermarket bosses couldn’t be bothered appearing before the sham supermarket inquiry today in Brisbane.

“Such is their disdain for Queenslanders and our farmers, the big two supermarkets have sent along their spin-doctors and middle management to pay lip service to the so-called inquiry.” Mr Katter said.

“I mean, why would the executives of greedy supermarkets make time in their diary to attend a media stunt by the Premier and the Brisbane Labor party?

“The supermarkets have no interest in making a difference to the cost of living for everyday Queenslanders, and nor do they give a stuff about our farmers,” the KAP Leader said.

In Brisbane on Monday, both Coles and Woolworths appeared before the Supermarket Pricing Select Committee, however neither company CEO attended.

“I called it at the start of this – this inquiry and its resulting report is destined to sit on a shelf in a Brisbane office collecting dust,” the member for Traeger said.

“Instead, we are seeing the circus that we knew it was destined to be.

“Opening questions focused on the conspicuous absence of CEOs, not tackling the real issues.

“Tuesday’s program has Metcash – the backers of IGAs – appearing before the committee, and they couldn’t even see the value in sending in a submission!

“What a waste of time and money, destined to make zero difference,” Mr Katter said.
