Regen Aqua Wastewater Treatment

At present there are 96 sewerage treatment facilities across Queensland, many of which are in Great Barrier Reef catchment areas, that are not compliant with modern technology and as a result are unnecessarily discharging waste (including nitrogen and phosphorous) into waterways, the ocean and potentially also the Reef.

The KAP wants the State and Federal governments to invest in new-age technologies to upgraded outdated sewage treatement plants to prevent the run-off of human waste onto the reef.

Developed by Pacific Bio, “Regen Aqua” technolgy uses sunlight to convert phosphorous and nitrogen into algae (seaweed), which in turn can be used as fertilizer.
