Local café one of many casualties of Labor Govt’s extreme Covid policies

KENNEDY MP, Bob Katter, says the closure of Atherton’s Village Kahawa café[1] is just one of the many casualties of the Labor State Government’s extreme covid mandates, with thousands out of work and businesses closed.

Mr Katter said that the State Government was walking on thin ice by imposing Covid rules which have seen the rights and interests of people be overridden.

“In the 1930s, a fascist approach to governing was enforced, because it was argued draconian measures were needed to overcome the depression. Tell me the difference to now,” he said.

Mr Katter said he was opposed to the Labor State Government’s mandates which have locked people out of their jobs and believed the forced wearing of masks was proving ineffective.

“To stop people from talking to each other is ridiculous,” Mr Katter said.

“You can’t talk properly or see the other person when you’re wearing masks. People can no longer simply come together and talk to each other as you would do in a café, coffee house or pub, McDonalds or Red Rooster.

“The Governments of Australia were given two clear years to get rid of this irritant, sometimes lethal, virus. In two years, they’ve been so incompetent that we still have no effective way of roping in the cases.

“They are asking people to take an immunisation that hasn’t been tested over a lengthy period – I’d hardly call seven months “lengthy” and there have reportedly been deaths and serious health problems from immunisation. I am immunised, but people should have freedom of choice.”

Mr Katter said the State Government was using Covid to quench their thirst for power.

“Just as with other tyrannies in history such as the Great Depression, the ‘Viking threat’ or the Black Death, they are taking advantage of the calamity to indefinitely suspend the rights and freedoms of the people,” he said.

“The masks rules and locking out the unvaccinated have clearly been ineffective in stopping the spread of Covid, and infection rates are through the roof with hundreds of thousands of cases now being recorded daily in Australia.

“I have recommended to Shane Knuth and his state colleagues that they move legislation opposing the wearing of masks in cafes which is ridiculous. All members of the KAP (Katter’s Australian Party) voted against the State Government’s vaccine mandates in State Parliament. The major parties voted for them. So, if you don’t like the mandates, stop voting for the major parties.”
